Just Right For Me!!
Once
again we had a great time making porridge!
We read the book “Goldilocks and The Three Bears” and discussed how to
pick out just right books. We are
encouraging the students to pick books on their reading level that interest
them and are “just right” for them as a reader.

Have A Great Summer!
What a
wonderful first grade year we all had together!
This was an amazing class full of very smart little ones with lots of
personality! I am truly going to miss
each and every one of them and have been so blessed to have been their
teacher. I will never forget them and
hope each of them always comes back to visit!
Have a great summer and good luck in second grade!

Dr. Suess Celebration
Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!
Dr. Seuss
Dr. Seuss
Happy Birthday Dr. Suess! What a great day we had today! We have officially read across America! Yeah!! Mrs. Hubbard and Mrs. Pomerantz came in this morning and we made green eggs and ham. The children were a real sport and ate their green eggs. They seemed to actually enjoy them! Then we had a couple of High School boys come in and read Dr. Suess books to the children. The girls and boys loved this and were almost “star struck” looking up at those high school boys. We got to watch “The Cat in the Hat” and they had birthday cupcakes at lunch in honor of Dr. Suess. Then Ms. Mack came in this afternoon dressed as the cat in the hat. She looked amazing and was all in character! She read books to them and gave each student their own book to keep. What an amazing day! See below for our picture slideshow.....
Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is youer than you!

Valentine's Day! Pirates & Princesses!
Yo Ho Ho and Sugar-n-Spice Makes Everything Nice!
Oh what fun we had at our Valentine’s Pirates and Princess Party. We started it all off with our typical rotations. The children made Valentine flowers out of xoxo and heart tissue paper. They then rotated to a painting station in which we painted their hands to make the shape of a heart hand print. They also enjoyed making their own Valentine cookies in which they frosted and decorated with yummy goodies. After these activities, we headed down to the gym and continued the party by doing line dances with Mrs. Rothweiler. The students were great and already knew the steps to the dances. They got their picture taken in front of our lovely princess carriage and pirate backdrop. Finally, we finished it all off with face painting. Oh yeah, they LOVED opening their Valentine goody bags! Thank you so much to all of our fabulous parents that helped out at the party. I could not have done it without you!! I am so grateful for the help with clean up too! Thank you to our wonderful Mrs. Porter as well! Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Painting Like Elephants!
This week, we read a story called “Can Elephants Paint?” by Katya Arnold. This is a true story about elephants painting! As the pictures show, the students pretended that they were elephants and painted with their pretend trunks (mouths). They could not use their hands! Then they wrote a summary about the story and expressed their opinion about the book. The students did great and had a blast!

Wow! What a great 100th day we had today! We started it all off with a great breakfast of doughnuts, sausage links, juice, and mixed up cereal that the students brought in after they counted 100 pieces. They made the number 100 on their plates with the sausage link and doughnuts. Then we creatively made 100 designed glasses and wrote about “If I could have 100…..” We rotated stations that involved the students doing fun activities such as reading a 100th day book, counting money to 100, making 100 shapes with the geo-boards, painting a picture with 100 dots or shapes, filling in a hundreds chart and skip counting, and working in Brain Pop Jr. with 100. The students got to wear really fun 100 day visors around the school and one of our very own students read a 100th day book to the class. It was a great learning day and thank you to all our parents for the donations!

Holiday Festivities
What great holiday festivities we had in Mrs. Barfield’s class! We began by having a very fun class party in which we made ginger bread houses, played the dreidel game, ate some delicious food and made reindeer footprints on canvas. The slide show is below. Thank to all of our great parents who sent items in and helped out! On our last day before break, we had a Polar Express Day. We all wore our pajamas. We watched this amazing movie, drank hot coco, and ate some yummy treats. All of these activities were a great way to celebrate the season!
